Why Irradiance Matters
Irradiance — measured in milliwatts per square centimeter (mW/cm²) — is the single most important specification for an LED light therapy device. It tells you how much light energy actually reaches your skin. Without sufficient irradiance, the photobiological reactions in your cells won't be triggered, regardless of how many LEDs the device has or what wavelengths it uses.
Clinical research suggests that a minimum irradiance of approximately 10 mW/cm² is needed at the skin surface to trigger measurable biological effects. Our device delivers 3 to 5 times that threshold across all treatment modes:
- Anti-Aging mode: 50.6 mW/cm² — 5x the minimum effective threshold
- Skin Rejuvenation mode: 44.8 mW/cm² — 4.5x the minimum effective threshold
- Acne Treatment mode: 36.3 mW/cm² — 3.6x the minimum effective threshold
Testing Methodology
The HAAS-3000 is a high-accuracy spectroradiometer designed specifically for optical radiation measurement. It measures both the spectral distribution (which wavelengths are present) and the total irradiance (how much energy at each wavelength) of light sources.
Testing was conducted at a 25mm distance because this represents the typical distance between the LED surface and the user's skin when the mask is worn. The ambient conditions (26°C, 50% RH) were controlled to eliminate environmental variables that could affect measurements.
Each mode was tested separately, with the spectroradiometer probe positioned at the center of the mask's treatment area. Measurements were taken after a 60-second stabilization period to ensure the LEDs reached their operating temperature and output stabilized.
Comparison to Industry Standards
Many LED masks on the market do not publish their irradiance specifications — or they quote numbers measured at the LED surface (0mm distance), which is misleading since the light loses intensity with distance. Our measurements at 25mm (skin distance) represent the actual light energy your skin receives during treatment.
For comparison, professional clinical LED devices typically deliver 50-100 mW/cm² at the skin surface. Our device delivers 36-51 mW/cm² — placing it in the upper range of at-home devices and approaching clinical-grade intensity.
